Southwest Statements

The American Southwest has seen many cultures throughout history and truly has one of the most diverse creative spaces in the United States.

Inhabitance of the southwest dates back to around 9,000 B.C. Indigenous people have been hunting and living off the land for centuries, and in the early 1500's, Spanish explorers started to set foot in the American Southwest.

The Spanish brought many changes to the land, and settled many of it as their own. Some of the trades the Spanish introduced to the American Southwest include the mining of precious metals including silver, gold and copper.

The American Southwest ultimately became a place of melted cultures. The Indigenous people and the Spanish learned from each other's cultures and created some of the most unique works of art including jewelry, pottery, clothing, food and much more. Today, you can see this beautiful blend of culture in the artwork in some of the most illustrious and obscure areas of the Southwest.

JP Bourgeois (Red Stick Records)

Influenced by Eric Church with a touch of Garth Brooks, JP is a talented up and coming singer and song writer. JP was born and raised in a small town in Louisiana. Unlike the Jazz and swamp pop musicians in Louisiana, JP has a Nashville country sound mix with a west coast rock edge.

JP began writing music after an incident at his day job where he was injured and needed time off to recover from his injuries. During his down time, JP picked up a guitar and started learning how to play. He discovered a passion for the instrument and began to perfect his craft. A quick learner, JP quickly began composing his own original music. He decided to go into a recording studio and test his ability to record.

During a jam session with a friend, JP was introduced tothe sound engineer at Audiosmith studio in Prairieville Louisiana. After listening to the acoustic tracks of JP’s original songs, the studio engineer decided to send the tracks to an upstart record label in Baton Rouge, La. The partners of Red Stick Records listened to the tracks and agreed to interview JP for a possible signing with the label. The labels partners were impressed with JP’s work ethic, positive attitude and of course, talent and unique sound. Red Stick Records decided to sign JP and produce his first EP.

JP’s first 3 song EP release is scheduled for Jan 7, 2022, and features Sarah Rowe on a track that the two can not wait to share.

NEW MEXICO SINGER/SONGWRITER

AUSTIN VAN.

Austin Van’s first time on stage was with his father, who while performing, lifted two-year-old Austin up to reach the microphone to sing a few lines with the family band. From that time on, Austin hasn’t left the spotlight.

Growing up the youngest of a very large family among generations of country & western bands, Austin has a deep-rooted love and appreciation for country music. Some of Austin’s musical influences have been Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Dwight Yokum, Hank Williams Jr. and Elvis Presley. When he performs, he emanates their rhythms, stance, and edge; but he does it with a self-assuredness and charisma all his own.
